There are a few different ways to get from Cebu City to Moalboal. The best way depends on your budget, but I personally recommend taking a bus.

Where is Moalboal?

Moalboal is a municipality located on the southwestern coast of the island of Cebu in the Philippines. It is about 2.5 hours from Cebu City.

Cebu City to Moalboal by Bus

I highly recommend taking a bus to get to Moalboal.

South Bus Terminal

First, you will have to get to South Bus Terminal in Cebu City. Whether you are arriving straight from Mactan-Cebu Airport or from your hotel in Cebu City, it is pretty cheap to get a Grab or taxi to the bus terminal.

I was staying in Kamputhaw and decided to walk to the bus terminal. It took over 30 minutes and it was very hot. Luckily, I only travel with a personal item. If you have luggage, you should definitely take a Grab.

Search South Bus Terminal in Google Maps to find the correct location. It’s on Natalio B. Bacalso Avenue.

Purchasing Your Ticket

Once you arrive at the terminal, look for buses that say “Moalboal“. I also recommend asking bus drivers if they can point you in the right direction.

You will then find the appropriate ticket counter near the buses. You can verify the time that the bus is departing, decide whether to get a bus with air conditioning or without air conditioning, and then purchase your ticket.

Bus with Air Conditioning vs without Air Conditioning

The buses with air conditioning are much more comfortable than those without. It gets very hot in the Philippines, so I recommend getting a bus that has A/C.

Buses without A/C are much more frequent, but you will likely be more cramped as those buses are more popular.

As far as prices, I paid 209 PHP (about $3.60 USD) for a ticket on a bus with A/C. Bus tickets to Moalboal on buses without A/C cost about 30 PHP less.

I recommend splurging the extra $0.50 USD and getting a bus with A/C. It will be much more comfortable.

How Long is the Trip by Bus?

Going from Cebu City to Moalboal via bus will take about 4 hours. This includes stopping halfway for about 15 minutes for you to buy food, drinks, and use the bathroom.

Cebu City to Moalboal by Taxi

If you would like to reach Moalboal more quickly, you can take a taxi. However, this will be much more expensive.

Price of Taxi From Cebu City to Moalboal

This depends on how well you negotiate and how many people are traveling with you.

You can expect to pay anywhere between 1,500-3,000 PHP ($26-52 USD) for a taxi. If you have a few other people traveling with you and you split the cost, it won’t be too unreasonable.

How to Get From Moalboal to the Beach

When you arrive in Moalboal, you will realize that the city and the bus station are pretty far from the beach.

There are a couple different ways to get to the beach from Moalboal.

I took a motorcycle and paid 50 PHP. Don’t pay more than 100 PHP. You can only take a motorcycle if you don’t have a lot of luggage.

You can also take a tricycle. This looks like a tuktuk, but the motorcycle is on the side of the carriage. This option is pricier at around 150-200 PHP. But this cost can be split by multiple passengers.

Tricycles are a common form of transportation in Moalboal.

Where to Stay in Moalboal

If you are staying in Moalboal on a budget, I highly recommend staying at Sunset Paradise Moalboal. This hotel is conveniently located near several restaurants, and bars. If you plan on freediving in Moalboal, this is the perfect location to stay! You can get a private room or a shared room here.

If you are planning to go scuba diving as well, consider staying at the Cebu Seaview Dive Resort
